Pearl Barley is the primary form of barley for human consumption as it has had its hull and bran removed in order for it to be edible.

Pearl barley is a wonderfully nutritious low fat food with a good iron and fibre content. The slightly sweet and mild grain lends itself well to cold salads or even as a breakfast cereal, topped with brown sugar. It is most popularly used as an addition to thick winter soups.
